Uyghur Nasheeds

Uyghur is a turkic language spoken mostly in East Turkestan (Xinjiang), today a province of China, and also by minorities in Kyrgyzistan and Kazachstan, which leads to a total of approximately 10 million people native speakers. Most of the nasheeds included here were produced by İslam Awazi (Voice of Islam), the media arm of Turkestan Islamic Party.

Sharqī Türkistān (East Turkestan) is part of greater Turkestan, meaning ”land of the Turks”. In 1949 China annexed the region and it became the country’s new province ”Xinjiang”, meaning ”New Borderland”. Uyghurs suffered much from the communist regimes rule, which tries to eliminate religion from the hearts of the Turkic people and assimilate them culturally, and are still oppressed and restricted. Last year’s Ramadan (2016) the authorities banned civil servants, students and children from fasting. Many revolt attempts were made hitherto, but all harshly suppressed. Even protests are not tolerated, and may lead to terrible results and massacres, as it was the case in Urumqi 2009.
